Episode 76: Jacqie McWilliams Commissioner of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association

Jacqie is the first African American female ever to hold the position of  Commissioner of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.  She spent nine years at the NCAA, managing NCAA championships, including serving as Director of the Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament from 2006-2009 and the Division I Men’s Basketball tournament from 2007-2012.

At Hampton University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Jacqie was a member of the 1988 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Championship team and the 1987 and 1990 CIAA volleyball championship teams. 

She has a Masters degree in Sports Management and Administration from Temple University.

In our conversation, Jacqie talks about her work on a range of boards and committees supporting women in sports leadership and diversity and equity in college sports. She also talks about losing, managing work, physical health, spiritual health, and being a mother, her influences growing up, history, not everything is an emergency, and having a great team and great advisors.
