Ep154: Jaydyn McKinney 2x Ohio High School Wrestling State Champion

October 5, 2023
High school senior Jaydyn McKinney has been wrestling since she was five years old. She is a two-time Ohio High School State Champion, which makes her the only athlete to win a back-to-back state championship for her high school.  She’s currently ranked 16th in the country at 135 pounds and has won multiple national and state titles throughout her fifteen year career. Even though she’s the only girl on her high school team, she is one of the team captains.

In 2022, the Ohio High School Athletic Association officially sanctioned girls wrestling and the following year, in 2023 held the first State Championships for high school female wrestlers. Jaydyn won that event at 135 pounds. For a few years before the officially sanctioned girls state championships the girls competed in state championship tournaments put on by the Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association. Jaydyn won that event in twenty twenty-two.

High school girls wrestling is growing fast throughout the US, so many states are catching on and officially sanctioning the sport and holding championships.

The story about Ohio’s first sanctioned girls wrestling season was filmed. The current working title of the project is Wrestle Her. You can follow them on Instagram here

Jaydyn has been wrestling since her start with the Manchester Youth Wrestling Club, Manchester Middle School, and Manchester High School as well as the Ohio Girls National Team.
