Episode 117: Helen Wyman Free Rule Change in Cyclocross

Helen Wyman is 10x British Cyclcross Champion, 2x European Champion, and a World Championship bronze medalist. She grew up in a cycling family with some very funny stories of early touring adventure vacations. She began racing at 14 and found cyclocross at 18, when the cross season fitted conveniently around her university studies in physiotherapy. Then at 23 she took up the sport full-time. She rose to the top of British Cyclocross as well as in the international field.

Helen has dedicated so much time and energy to racing cyclocross and equally importantly to making progress for the sport towards equality for female riders. This included four years on the UCI cyclocross commission. She retired from racing in 2018. Since then she established Helen 100 to provide opportunities to women in cyclocross, has been the expert commentator for Red Bull coverage of cyclocross, and became a mom.

For more from Helen take a listen to Episode 22, where I first learned about the advocacy work Helen did while on the UCI Cyclocross Commission. It’s in this discussion you can hear about her cycling start.
